ACE OF CUSTOMS
SNEAKERCON LOS ANGELES 2016
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to compete in both the 11th and 12th ever episodes of Ace of Customs at Sneakercon Los Angeles 2016. The event was sponsored by Sprite and a small part of the BET Experience, preceding the BET Awards.
The 11th episode (pictured at left) was the Champion's League, in which I faced off against @adrianscustoms, @elcappy, and @noelitoo_. The theme was based off of Sprite's "Obey Your Verse" promotion. I chose lyrics by rapper J Cole to base my shoe off of: "We ain't picture perfect, but we worth the picture still". I blacked out the soles, did some abstract illustration to represent both family and friends, and finished them off with neon laces and picture lockets.
The second day of competition was the first ever Tag Team Battle, in which I was paired with @justwincustoms. We were given Missy Elliott as our artist to theme the shoe on. We combined her fashion sense and music to create a shoe featuring graffiti, colors similar to her album art, gold chains, three stripes as a nod to her Adidas jackets, and hoop earrings. Missy Elliott herself approved of them (pictured at right)! The other two teams of competitors included @chadcantcolor & @noelitoo_, and @oldirtywaffles & @vickalmighty.
Stay tuned to see upcoming episodes of Ace of Customs, which will be here for viewing!
